          (chorus) Well, just as far as the eye could see
          was the signifyin' monkey in the coconut tree.

          Now, deep down in the jungle
          where the coconuts grow,
          lives a signifyin' monkey,
          that the WORLD should know.

          He told Mr. lion,
          one bright and sunny day,

          said: "There's a big bully elephant
          comin' down your way".

          Now I know Mr. lion,
          he couldn't possibly be your friend,
          coz he talks 'bout the shape
          that your family is in.

          He talks about your mama,

          man, he shook his tail at your daddy,
          and man, that big cat flew.!!

          Now the lion listened on,
          and man, he got sore.
          He popped his ole bushy tail,
          like a "forty-four".!!

          He went on down thru the jungle,

          knockin' coconuts
          from the coconut trees.!!

          Now, the elephant looked up,
          out o' the corner o' his eye,
          and said: "you just better go on, you big, burly, rascal,
          and pick on somebody
          your own size"

          and i'll mess up your face,
          man, i'll whip your head
          all over this place."!!

          Then the lion looked up,
          and who did he see?

          when both feet missed the branches,
          man, his head sure hit the ground.

          He looked up at the lion ,
          with tears in his eyes,

          sayin' "Now wait, Mr. lion,
          , I wants to apologize"

          "If you'll just let me up,
          like a good man should,
          i'll whip your head , all over these woods".

          Now just as the lion,
          was puttin' up a pretty good fight,
          that signifyin' monkey,
          jumped almost outta sight..!!
